Guilty Pleasure Monday, Installment 2

Long time no see.  So guess what.  I heart Cheap Trick quite a bit.  It's true.  I don't know if this necessarily makes for a guilty pleasure, but it's true.  I do.  Maybe it's partially childhood nostalgia, maybe it's my love for pure pop goodness.  Whatever it is, I know that this song is way awesome.  And it's from a program that I fondly recall being able to watch as a kid when our parents would go out for the night.  Ladies and gentleman, I present to you Cheap Trick performing their amazing "Downed" on Don Kirshner's Rock Concert.  Enjoy.  (For those of you who would like extra credit, search out Paul Shaffer doing a terrific riff of Don Kirshner's stiff delivery in Season 3 of Saturday Night Live(1978 Steve Martin/Blues Brothers episode)).

Guilty Pleasure Monday, Installment 1

I have decided to see if I can't become a more reliable narrator (or something like that), and start making regular contributions to this feed in the form of weekly Guilty Pleasure selections.  What do I mean by Guilty Pleasure?  Well, it's basically going to be an audio selection that I particularly enjoy, despite it's apparent uncouthness.  I suppose in a certain sense, these will appear to be confessions.

With this in mind, I must confess to liking The Black Crowes.  Not necessarily everything the put out but definitely Southern Harmony and Musical Companion/Amorica-era stuff is pretty rad.  One thing that I will make no effort to hide is my love of The Velvet Underground.

Ladies and gentleman of the Interwebs, I present to you The Black Crowes performing "Oh Sweet Nuthin".  Sure it's nothing close to the magical interplay of Reed and Morrison, but the subtle Southern Rock inflection and in particular the Hammond wash are pretty sweet.  Enjoy the mellow vibe.
